Craig Thomson

HMRC is tasked with difficult work, and as a former inspector I understand the challenges faced by its officers. I worked with the Inland Revenue in Edinburgh, Glasgow and London, both as a fully trained corporate tax inspector and as a specialist investigator. After moving to the tax profession, I led teams for two of the ‘Big 4’ accountancy firms, covering Scotland and Northern Ireland. I have worked in every part of the UK, and in Switzerland where I was based for six years.

Having been a specialist in tax investigations for over 25 years I use my experience to help clients resolve the challenges that can arise with HMRC. I advise on a broad range of tax enquiries, from private clients, small businesses, to corporates. I often work on a consultancy basis, and regularly support other advisers. There is never just one side to a tax dispute, and difficult problems require commitment and imagination to resolve.

My office is in the centre of Edinburgh and I am active in the local tax community as a branch committee member of the CIOT. I work with clients across the UK and am always happy to have an initial discussion to see if I might be able to help.
